Stone Wall and Pathway on Slope

This project was a re-design of back yard in the hills. In order to create space for the owners, we created terraces that could be used for lounging and overlooking the bay. We used a neutral color scheme so the eye could rest and focus on the new calming space. We added stone retaining walls that served to retain the earth, create the terraces, and create a new and beautiful architecture. We added new pathways with stone steps and gravel to walk on to enhance the walk throughout the property. At the top of the garden, we added a bench swing in order to take advantage of the views and to provide a space in which to relax. The new lighting plan is a part of the architecture of the space. The new plants added color and texture and were selected to match each microzone.

This sustainable landscape transformation integrates drought-tolerant native plantings, a serene meadow garden, and structured greenery for a balanced, elegant design. A spa, inviting entertainment spaces, and meandering pathways enhance livability, while a thoughtful lighting plan creates a warm ambiance. Functional needs are seamlessly addressed with a discreet enclosed area for trash, recycling, and yard equipment. Blending sustainability with beauty, this design offers a tranquil yet functional outdoor retreat.

Hillside Rural Retreat

This hillside landscape blends Mediterranean elegance with resilient, fire-wise design. Drought-tolerant and firescaping plantings provide beauty and protection, while vibrant poolside gardens infuse color and texture. A curated mix of Mediterranean flora enhances the terrain, creating a lush yet water-efficient retreat that thrives in the climate. This design balances safety, sustainability, and timeless style for a stunning outdoor escape.

Scenic Horizons: Planting Design for a Hillside Home with Breathtaking Views

Sonoma Countryside

This was a re-design of large rural outdoor spaces for a home and guest house. For the home area, we added a raised concrete deck with large format steps to sit on and open planting areas to convey a sense of warmth on the patio. We added a stone wall to separate the guest house and main house back outdoor spaces. We used native plantings as much as possible and used the beautiful natural spaces and views to complement the designed spaces. Closer to the home, we planted a more structured space that gave way to a sparser planting, eventually giving way to nature. 

Stone & Soil: A Large Scale Landscape Transformation in Sonoma

Rooftop Deck

This is a rooftop deck designed for a residential building that takes advantage of views and allows for plenty of seating and private areas to chat with friends and family. The planting plan creates separate areas for privacy as well as balance for the scope of the rooftop. The lighting plan provides for safety but also adds multidimensionality to the space. The paving materials was selected to create a balance and have a space that is design forward and serene. The furniture and planters were selected to match the overall scheme.

Modern Rooftop Retreat: Privacy, Dining, and Relaxation

Creekside Restoration

This long awaited project was a collaborative effort. Charged with restoring the creekside with native plants, plants that provided color, and drought-tolerant plants, we found a balance that the clients wanted. The space provides raised patios and benches to overlook and enjoy the creek and landscape.
